There are three different ways in which the -“ed” in the simple past is pronounced.
To make the simple past for regular english words we add the letters ed to the end of the word:
Example: play + ed -> played
Present tense: I play cricket on Tuesdays.
Past tense: I played cricket yesterday.
Rule 1:
If the verb ends with an “e” just add “d”. use -> used
Rule 2:
When the verb ends in consonant + vowel + consonant, you have to double the last consonant and then add “ed” to make the Past Simple. stop -> stopped
